Mayor Thornton enjoys extreme quad (4-wheel) racing with his children, scuba diving, golfing and is very involved in the Magnolia community and can be often spotted at Magnolia’s charity fundraising events such as Depot Day, which raises money for the restoration of Magnolia’s historic train depot as well as the annual Miss Magnolia pageant, which raises scholarship funds for Magnolia’s youth.

Mayor Thornton and his wife, Debbie have four children, daughters Jennifer and Jamie, and sons Chris and Corey.

Mayor Thornton considers one of his primary responsibilities to be his availability to our citizens and to do what he can to maintain a high level quality of life for all.

Goals:

• Maintaining sufficient water supply
• Improving the water and wastewater infrastructure
• Ensuring the ongoing process of economic development for Magnolia's future
• Restoring public confidence in City Government

ELECTION 2009:  Mayor Jimmy Thornton announced today, February 25, 2010, that he will not be seeking re-election in the May mayoral election.  He said his full tiem job requires too much of his time to devote the time needed to mayor.
